COVID-19. Mexican Patent and Trademark Office (IMPI) Update

As we previously informed, in view of the contingency measures adopted to prevent the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, IMPI suspended its normal activities and interrupted terms from March 24 until further notice.

These restrictions have been lifted and as a consequence, IMPI published a decree in the Federal Official Gazette declaring the following:

  • Resume of activities on a gradual, cautious and organized manner as from July 6, 2020, by allowing paper filings for all type cases.
  • That the filing date of applications, motions and briefs filed within the suspension period (March 24 to July 12, 2020) will be July 13, 2020, and that procedural terms and deadlines will resume on the same date.

OLIVARES will closely monitor the effectiveness of IMPI’s reactivation measures and shall keep you duly informed.
